A Letter from Julie:
To everyone that has ever met me or been here to the kennel , they know "Mama Bear" the sweetest grey in the world, the one that mothers all and takes care of all the new hounds that come here and makes them feel at home.
We helped her pass to the bridge last Friday. February 23, 2007. She had a stroke in the night and was unable to walk. I thought as many times as I had done this I would be okay but, as we all know, you fall to pieces. She got a second chance at life as she was taken from a vet due to be put down after she was too old to breed any more. I got a call from states away saying, "Can you come get her?" and of course off I went. She was truly a dear soul.
I want to start a fund for the senior greys here. like Chris and all the other seniors who are here and those who are yet to come. We take so many seniors and a lot of groups will not take them as they are expensive to care for. A lot of people will not adopt them due to their age.
Please help us take care of senior greys and make a donation to the Mama Bear Senior fund. Thank you.
Julie lost her other greyhound ..Everyone remembers Craigie.the white with some tan ..he cross the bridge on the 16th of July.he was a senior 13 years old. he will be missed by all that knew him.be free now and run without harm.

Julie's grandbaby -- they don't get much cuter than that!
About us:
Circle of Friends Greyhound Adoptions is an independent non-profit corporation registered in the state of North Carolina. CFGA has no affiliation with any Greyhound track or other organization. Our group is funded by adoption fees, boarding fees, and donations. Donations are tax deductible. All of the work with the hounds, as well as other projects at the farm are done by Julie and any available volunteers. At "the farm" we can house about 18 greyhounds and also board them for vacationing owners when space in the kennel permits. We also have a group of senior greys that call the farm their forever home. They live with Julie in the house. You can find out more about these specials hounds on the Sponsor a Grey page.
We have been finding new homes for retired racers since 1994. Our group focuses on greyhounds, but we occasionally rescue other breeds of sighthounds as well. In 2006, our group relocated to what we call "the farm". We have 5 acres of land. The kennel was contructed at the rear of the old farmhouse that was already here. Julie Dearmin, the director, is the live-in caretaker of all the hounds at the farm.
Our group gets new dogs often, so the list of available dogs is updated frequently. Most of the dogs we recieve are between 2 and 5 years of age, as this range tends to be the most common one of "retirement". Sometimes we get some greys that are a little older. These older greys make WONDERFUL pets. Greyhounds are generally very social, and many get along just fine with cats and other small animals. Housebreaking is also usually a smooth process. Most greys see the house as a great big kennel, and know to keep their kennels clean! Greyhounds do not require a lot of exercise. Granted, some are more active than others and need a nice yard to run in, while others just fine with a few walks a day and a loose romp in a fenced in area every once in a while.
Since they are raised in groups, they are very social animals. They crave companionship and affection.
All of our greys are given a complete medical exam, spayed or neutered, and updated on all the necessary shots. They also come with a travel muzzle and a martingale collar. To find out more about the adoption process, please visit the How to Adopt link!
Please look around our site, and we hope that we are able to help you decide if a greyhound would be right for your family. Please call or e-mail any of our contacts below if you have any questions about adopting or just greyhounds in general. And even if you can't adopt, we are always looking for volunteers, foster families, sponsors for both the hounds and events, and donations. Thanks for visiting our site.

Then God sent the Greyhound to live among man and remember.
And when the Day comes, God will call the Greyhound to give
Testament, and God will pass judgement on man.
we miss you chris,
and I'll remember you

From time to time, people tell me,
"lighten up, it's just a dog,"
or, "that's a lot of money for just a dog."
They don't understand the distance traveled,
the time spent, or the costs involved for
"just a dog."
Some of my proudest moments have come about with
"just a dog."
Many hours have passed and my only company was
"just a dog,"
but I did not once feel slighted.
Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by
"just a dog,"
and in those days of darkness,
the gentle touch of "just a dog"
gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.
If you, too, think it's "just a dog,"
then you will probably understand phases
like "just a friend," "just a sunrise," or
"just a promise."
"Just a dog" brings into my life the very essence
of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy.
"Just a dog" brings out the compassion and
patience that make me a better person.
Because of "just a dog" I will rise early,
take long walks and look longingly to the future.
So for me and folks like me, it's not "just a dog"
but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams
of the future, the fond memories of the past,
and the pure joy of the moment.
"Just a dog" brings out what's good in me and
diverts my thoughts away from myself and the
worries of the day.
I hope that someday they can understand that
it's not "just a dog"
but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps
me from being "just a man."
So the next time you hear the phrase "just a dog."
just smile, because they "just don't understanddd
